Autumnal Almanac

Although an almanac is traditionally an annual publication I am sure you will excuse my need for alliteration and a catch-up.

It has been a while since my last post and a busy time at The Nappy Laundry Company.  In September I went to Edinburgh Zoo to receive my Green Apple Award.  It was a wonderful day and were delighted to see that a number of businesses and organisations based in the North-east of Scotland received recognition for their environmental efforts.

We arrived at the Zoo and were treated to a Cream Tea in the beautiful Mansion house.  The award winners then headed over to the stunning chimp budungo trail, where we were presented with our awards in the lecture theatre.  Following that we then had fizz with the penguins.

It has been at least 5 years since I last visited Edinburgh Zoo and I was amazed by the new penguin and chimp enclosure both of which had been changed beyond recognition.  Unfortunately the Panda’s were in shutdown due the suspected pregnancy, but I will just need to take another trip – this time with the kids who were very put out that they weren’t invited.

The Nappy Laundry Company is delighted to be stocking a range of baby carriers and wraps.  This is something we have been working on for sometime following customers feedback.  So back in May I attended a course run by The School of Babywearing to learn all about the benefits of babywearing and the different type of slings, wraps and carriers available.

From then we have been gradually building a range of products and have done a couple of pre-orders.  During International Babywearing Week, we hosted an informal babywearing and cloth nappy coffee morning and chat.

Over the coming months we hope to have some more events to announce and perhaps some more pre-orders.  Keep in touch with what is going on through our facebook page or sign-up to our newsletter on the front page of our website.

At the moment our babywearing range is housed under “For Mum” on the website, I feel it deserves a stand alone category and that is on the my every increasing to do list!

I have also been attending Aberdeen Forward’s monthly nappy club giving advice to mums-to-be who are interested in using cloth.  This is held on the first Friday of the month from 10-12noon at Aberdeen Forward in Poynernook Rd.  It has been heartening to see attendance to the club improving and wonderful to see mums coming back with there bundles to let us know how they are getting on with cloth.

With Christmas now looming ever closer we will be at few Christmas Fairs and we also have range of lovely gifts and stocking fillers.  But more of that later!
